The microhouse concept I envision is comprised of several essential characteristics including the following:
* Affordability - $10,000, or less, ($100 / sq. ft.) cost for a structure occupying 27 cubic meters on a 9 square meter (10ft x 10ft) area
* Modularity - basic unit is a standalone, livable space that can be easily adapted to a wide range of applications, conditions, and configurations by linking with other units
* Manufacturability - can be built in a locally dispersed setting by people possessing partial skills using materials, tooling, equipment, and designs that are standardized, readily available, and easy to use
* Portability - can be built to remain in place for as long as the owner chooses and is easily dismantled, packaged, and transported to another location where it can be setup again
* Compliant with local building codes and zoning regulations
* LEED-certified "green" structure
* Self-contained in support of an "off the grid" lifestyle
There are numerous microhouse alternatives available today; however, none of them possess all of these characteristics.
